Merv Eastgate
Merv Eastgate - Shipmate crossed the bar peacefully today at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Merv was a long serving Greenie of the RAN and joined the RAN in 1949 as a recruit in the electrical branch. He eventually paid off in April 1964 as a PO Electrician after having served in numerous bases and ships. He also served at Maralinga and Woomera. He suffered severely in his latter years and was also a ex Voyager shipmate as well as HMAS Vengance and HMAS Melbourne. His favourite saying was "D04 for evermore" whenever you were speaking to him. As you can guess, his most favoured draft was HMAS Voyager on which he spent just over two years.
