Re: Vale-Barry Hyland
Barry was a very good friend of mine on Voyager, he was the only one to turn up when I had to go to court for compensation, I also used to call in and see himin Wollongong on my way to Huskisson for our reunions, I will miss his emails and send my condolences to Robin and his son,

Les,
Just realised all my photo,s of Barry in rig went down with the ship, and I was discharged after that, perhaps someone not a voyager survivor has a picture as I see he stayed in the navy afterwards.

It is my sad duty to report that Beachball passed away unexpectedly (after a long illness) at 0430 on 10th July at Shell Harbour Hospital.
Beachball was a HMAS VOYAGER Survivor and gave evidence at many of the inquiries how he had served CMDR Duncan STEVENS a triple brandy on the night of the collision. This evidence and the collision haunted him the rest of his life.
He then served in the following Ships:
QUIBERON, DUCHESS, SYDNEY, ANZAC and SYDNEY again.
I had the honour to serve with him onboard HMAS DUCHESS from 1966 to 1968 where we were both Killicks. He skidded me to being Killick of the S&S Mess.
He is survived by his wife Robyn and 2 Sons. Cards can be sent to 30 Sassafras Street, WINDANG, 2528, NSW.
Funeral details:
1000 _ Tuesday 16th July
Rankins Funeral Parlour
Cowper Street
WARRAWONG (Near Wollongong/Port Kembla)
No flowers by request. Donation to Respiratory Unit, Shell Harbour Hospital.
Medals to be worn.
