St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Brisbane Feb 10 2016 Empty PRAYERS OF THE INTERCESSION, ASH WEDNESDAY 10.02.16

Post by Admin Mon 15 Feb 2016, 05:54

The service was held by Pastor Mark Vainnika at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Brisbane City.

PRAYERS OF THE INTERCESSION, ASH WEDNESDAY 10.02.16

As we journey toward the renewing waters of Easter, let us pray for the world, the church, and all who seek new life in Christ. As these prayers also mark the anniversary of the HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Voyager collision, we light a candle at the beginning of the intercessions, to remind us, that Christ’s light continues to shine, also into the dark crevices of our loss and grief.

They have no grave but the cruel sea
No flowers lay at their head
A rusting hulk is their tombstone
Afast on the ocean bed.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Candle is lit. A brief silence. Each petition ends: God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†       Loving God, restore our broken lives and turn our hearts toward you, that we may live in honest repentance and in the promise of your grace. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†      Bring justice to the oppressed of the earth, surround the poor with renewed hope, grant sufficient food to the hungry, and teach us all to care lovingly for your creation. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†      Heal nations afflicted by sins of greed, pride, and violence, that your ways of peacemaking and unity may prevail throughout the world. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†      Send compassion to those weighed down by sickness or grief, (especially those who we now remember silently in our hearts), that they might receive health and the encouragement of your steadfast love.

On this anniversary of the HMAS Melbourne-Voyager Collision, we honour and remember those, who died, in the dark emptiness of the night. Help us to remember that you are a loving God, from whose love in Christ, we cannot be parted, either by death or life. As we honour the courage and cherish the memory of all people on board these two vessels that evening, we pray that those who died are being carried by your eternal light and love, and those who survived, continue to live under your healing and comfort. We pray for all sea-farers, all who serve our nation in armed forces and all who mourn for those who have died in service of our country. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†      Guide us through this time of Lent, that our works of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving may spring from your mercy and reveal the treasure of your presence. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

†      We remember those who have died in your mercy. Strengthen us to face our mortality with humility and courage, and to trust in your promise of the life of the world to come. God of our salvation, hear our prayer.

These petitions and thanksgivings of the congregation, silent or spoken aloud are given into your hands, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen
